The Wireless Technician needs to dedicate to working safely and have quality workmanship. The Wireless Technician will support complex networks that transmit wireless signals. The Wireless Technician must also build the infrastructure required for wireless communication systems. They should maintain and repair personal communication devices.
Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs Internet, phone and digital video services including business and residential locations.
Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs all wiring/cabling and hardware required to support home and commercial services. This may include fiber, coax, and Ethernet cabling.
Programs, configures, and troubleshoots USConnect provided customer premise equipment to support video, phone, and Internet services.
Installs, maintains, and replaces coaxial cables, fiber optic and copper lines entering or within the customer premises.
Supports system maintenance by clearing complex plan conditions throughout the network.
Installs in-line devices including coax amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters, power supplies and fiber optic multi-ports and splitters
Utilizes test and measurement equipment to validate performance of Internet, video, phone, and Wi-Fi services.
Always observes all company safety procedures.
Will be expected to support on-call rotation and periodic weekend work may be required.
Working conditions include climbing, working in attic crawl spaces, working at heights and driving across service territories in a company vehicle.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Must be able to communicate to customers internal and external clearly and successfully.
Listen effectively, present your idea, and work well solo or in a group setting.
Have a valid driver’s license
Must have knowledge of fiber to the premise installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
Able to demonstrate basic PC/tablet skills using basic software applications like email and web browsers.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
Must be able to pass pre-employment & random screenings (Drug and Background)
Reports To: Lead Network Technician and/or Operations Supervisor
The Network Technician – Apprentice installs, maintains, and services voice, video (CATV/IPTV) and broadband services (IP, PBX, UC), copper and fiber optic cable lines and protection devices (NID/ONT), customer-owned wiring, including home networking.
Coordinates with other departments on service installations and changes necessary to update billing, plant facilities, and other company records. Completes all installation and repair-related forms and reports.
Increase job knowledge by supporting Network Technicians I, II and III with their duties.
Communicates effectively so complete and accurate records for the network may be maintained according to Company standards and procedures.
Installs and repairs all plant related infrastructure including but not limited to cable (copper & fiber), NIDS/ONT’s, modems, set top boxes, and customer owned inside wiring including home networking.
Performs copper and fiber splicing to NID / ONT devices.
Work is normally performed in all weather conditions, noise levels, hazardous conditions, and full range of outdoor and indoor work surfaces.
Maintains a clean and secure environment and cares for company assets and property.
Upholds a good attendance record and a well-kept appearance.
Must have a valid (State) driver’s license and be insurable by USConnect insurance carrier.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Will develop proficiency in the following areas: Internal candidates must encompass the following skill set.
Outside plant safety practices relevant to Telecom.
Personal laptop computers, basic keyboard, Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office Suite software.
Home networking including but not limited to installation and maintenance of inside wiring, routers, and personal devices.
Basic electronics and battery power.
Installation and maintenance of voice and data (DSL, ADSL, VDSL, FTTH) services including but not limited to service terminals, mainline cable service drops, NID, and inside wiring.
Installation and maintenance of video (CATV /IPTV) services, including but not limited to Coax Plant, VDSL, and set top box provisioning.
Copper and fiber splicing and maintenance including but not limited to cable preparation, color code identification, installation, splicing and grounding.
Operating service equipment including bucket truck, various hand tools, and generators.
Operating copper and other testing equipment (Greenlee, EXFO, Power Meter, etc.)
Operating and accurately interpreting OTDR testing results.
Operating fiber fusion splicing equipment.
Installation and maintenance of DLC /DSLAM systems (Adtran, AFC, Calix, Positron, etc.) relevant to the operations.
Installation and maintenance of IP delivery (Ethernet, Ethernet over Copper (EOC)
Must be 18 years old or older
Must be able to handle loads of up to 50 lbs. or more
Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen (and Random Selections)
